Welcome to IPHS 400: Frontiers in AI at Kenyon College. This upper-division course is a hands-on study of the AI frontier as it stands in late 2026: AI software engineering (AI-SWE), coordinating autonomous coding agents through a professional software development lifecycle. You build this competency through four mini-projects that stack on each other — your own development environment, a web CMS built with a spec-driven AI-SWE workflow, agentic systems that automate knowledge workflows and discovery, and a fourth project to be announced — before applying the whole toolchain to an original interdisciplinary research project.
